Making Changes

Hi Ya'll! Its been awhile since I have been up on here. Let me update you on my crazy life.

We were unable to re-enlist in the Navy in March 2011. Nothing we did wrong, just basically wrong time/wrong place/messed up paperwork. We ended up moving back "home" in with my parents. Since then we have been struggling finding jobs in this economy. I ended up going back to work at a Veterinary Clinic I used to work at. Its been a struggle adjusting to the working mom side of things. I feel like I miss out on everything my kids do!

My husband is the one struggling the most. Even with his great military experience behind him he is having a hard time finding a job that is not making minimum wage. Times are tough right now and in fact he is considering re-enlisiting in another branch of military.

But as of last week I got my website up and running! I hope to still do photography on the side as I never planned it to be a main source of income. I want my photography to be reasonably priced so that people can get great portraits without breaking the bank. I hope you all visit my site and I hope to update this more often!!

Why are some of my proofs in black and white?

Personally I LOVE black and white photos. However I can't determine what you like and do not like. Sometimes you will receive proofs that are black and white. Some of them do not include a color copy of the same image and others do. If a color copy is not included there are some reasons for that, but the biggest reason is usually that the color is wonky. Meaning that the color of the skin may be off from that of the background or that there is too much of one color and when you try to decrease it, it makes it look funny. Another reason may be because as an artist I believe some images are intended to be in black and white. If you get a proof that is in black and white and no color copy, I can let you know if I can work out the color issues or see if there is another reason on why I chose black and white only. I will charge an extra small fee to try and fix the image if you prefer it in color. However, I do not charge extra to make a color picture black and white. If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask! I am very open about your session and feel free to tell me if you do not like black and white, however I may still include them if I see an image that is too cute to pass!!

New Year

This year went by so fast! I can't believe it! I have met so many great people through photography and I hope that the New Year brings even more great clients. I hope everyone has a safe celebration to bring in the New Year! What are your resolutions? I have a few. One is to get in shape. Not to loose weight but to get healthy. I have been so busy the last half of 2010 that I didn't take care of myself. I want to make sure that I start the 2011 year off right and get back into it. Another one is to keep up with school. I am not going to school for photography as with the number of photographers its just too competitive to make it my sole income. I plan to become a zoo keeper or something to that nature. So I have a long road still to a degree but as long as I keep moving slowly it will come. I also want to move forward in my photography and have a business that keeps moving. I want to get a website up and running and get a few more equipment items to help out. I also want a new camera but not sure if that will happen in 2011!!

Anyways I hope to keep posting on here and look for the future in my photography business. Thank you for following me and supporting me. I hope to work with you all soon, if I have not already!

Little Miss 'B' and Family

I have taken a few different photos of Little Miss 'B'. She is an aspiring model and so I have been taking some portfolio type shots for her and again we needed more of different hair styles so that was our focus. But at the same time we decided to include the family in a holiday family shoot as well! Mommy is a good friend of mine so I could not resist! They are a gorgeous little family and they are the sweetest people!

My Halloween Babies!

I know its a little late but with me being so busy and all I couldn't get these done in time. Here are my babies in their awesome costumes (of course they are awesome I made them : P ) But anyways, my darling little girl is the White Queen from the recent Alice and Wonderland. My super hero son is Astro Boy. I had fun making their costumes this year and hopefully next year mommy can dress up too and get these pictures up BEFORE Halloween!!

So I did my first shoot at Old Poway Park and I was thrilled with the location! I am going to go there to take my own family photos!

I got the opportunity to photograph this family of 5. What a beautiful family. The boys were adorable and they did so well! Of course at the end mom wanted Lollipop pictures so there was a good incentive!

Been Busy

Sorry to everyone who follows my blog. I just realized its been since July that I have posted on here! I have been so busy lately taking classes at school, my daughter starting Kindergarten, starting up a day care in my home and doing photo sessions! I know things will get busier too as the holidays approach! I will be doing a few shoots this month and I will post them up here once I get them done. I plan to get a website up after the 1st of the year and my prices will also have a restructuring! Thank you all for being supportive! Before deployments. Its always the hardest times but getting some pictures beforehand always helps. Dad is in the Marines and he is leaving for Afganistan for 7 months. He will miss all those first moments with his little girl, but he is serving our country proud. I was fortunate to get them some family pictures that he can maybe take along with him on his journey to keep his spirits high and keep him safe. Also for baby "B" to see her daddy and how much he loves her!

Slow Times!

Its kind of a wacky idea to say your going to start a photography business in San Diego. Its so beautiful here, there are so many locations for photos, and everyone seems to be a photographer out here. Its such a tough market and when your just beginning, it seems like you are not going to get anywhere. I can offer such cheap sessions just mainly to build my portfolio and still no one bites on it. It brings me down and makes me wonder if its really worth it. Don't get me wrong I am not going to give up my camera, but should I keep trying to build a business? Its expensive for one. People really don't understand why they should pay money for great photos when their friend down the road can take satisfactory ones for free. Well, to start a business it costs money, lots of money. Sure people out there can skip around the bush and not claim taxes or anything but those people are the ones that are not true to our country. We can't make money for free and well its not always fair for those just starting out, sometimes thats the risk that has to be taken. However, its that one person that gives you credit for the work you put into their session and gives you a huge pat on the back that keeps you going. I am going to keep going and I am happy to all that are reading this, giving me support! To all my friends that I have not done pictures for, be sure to keep me in mind! Things are super slow right now so let me know if you want to book a session!

Beautiful Family

This was a beautiful family to photograph. The mom serves our country proud in the USAF and the dad has served his country proud in the USAF and now supports his wife. Their son was cute as can be and only 5 months old. Mom said she will be deploying to Afganastan in a couple months. My heart and sould is with her while she is gone. I hope for her safety and a happy return home to watch her baby boy grow up! That being said I hope I am able to provide them photographs to keep their spirits high while she is gone.

So while I was in Arizona I thought it would be a perfect opportunity to do some more portfolio building. The response was great and I got the opportunity to try new locations, shoot in different situations and experiment more. I will be posting my sessions over the next few days of those. I loved shooting there and can't wait to shoot more. I do lots of traveling back to Arizona since that is my hometown so I look forward to working more with those out there!

I don't get too many of these but I finally got to do another maternity! The mom-to-be-again wanted indoor shots with the black background. I am still trying to get the hang of indoor shoots without having any lighting. I used natural light with a bounced flash. Plus I still need to save for a wide angle lens to help out in tighter situations!

Been Awhile....

Its been awhile since I have posted! I have been super busy with all sorts of life odds and ends! I have done a number of shoots since I last posted and so the next few posts over the next few days will include photos of all those shoots. I am beginning to feel more comfortable and hopefully finding my style slowly but surely. I still see how much I have to learn and how much I can still do, but I am loving learning. Hopefully my improvement has shown and hopefully there will be lots more to come!

It seems like yesterday that I just took pictures of my first newborn. Well it was about yesterday that I took pictures of her again! She has grown so quickly. She is almost 3 months old now and is cute as a button! She did really well for pictures, even though this age is really hard to shoot. Enjoy!

2 Month Old - San Diego Baby Photography

Taking photos of a 2 month old is a bit of a challenge because they don't sleep and lie still like newborns and they can't sit up like 6+ month olds. However this little 2 month old was cute as a button and even though the poses are not the best I think they came out rather cute just because she was cute! I think they wanted a somewhat of a newborn feel to them because these were the baby's first pictures. So we did some "newborn like" shots and then some regular type ones. I hope they enjoy these because I certainly enjoyed this little girl!

I got to take photos of new baby brother "K". Big brother "B" was such a cute big brother. You could tell he loved his baby brother and was very excited to do some pictures. Not only was "B" a great little boy, little "K" was even cuter! He was awake for the 1st half of the shoot and was content as can be! He didn't cry or fuss, he just lay there and let us snap his photos. Then mom got him to sleep and he was such a cute little sleeper. I hope mom enjoys the photos because I enjoyed taking them!

1st Newborn - San Diego Photography

I got the opportunity to do my first newborn session. It was fantastic. Newborns are a hard task to accomplish but I think I was able to get a few that mom will love. She is a sweet little baby and was 10 days old at the time of the session. She just wasn't too sleepy so getting sleepy pictures was a bit more difficult. The last one was just a cute one that looks as if she is smiling!

Here is baby "A"! She is 4 months old and a real doll. Mom gets her photos done every month and I came to do the 4 month old shots. Timing worked out perfect because baby "A" was fed and took an extra long nap so she was happy and very good about us changing backdrops/wings/tutu!

I had offered to do family portraits for the "S" family a few months back and we finally got to it! Schedules are crazy when it comes to husbands in the military! Little Mr. "R" did not like his picture taken...he was playing games and shying away from the camera but little did he know that I got a few good ones!! Daddy is getting ready to leave on a deployment so I hope these pictures are something he can take with him for great memories!

I had the opportunity to photograph a beautiful family of 4 that were visiting from out of state. It was a warm morning and the sun was shinning bright but I believe I was able to capture a few they might like! The two adorable girls were afraid of the water but they were so brave to get their pictures taken near it! It was hard to get them to smile, but mom said that they were sleepy...those precious girls sleep in until 10am! I guess thats why they are so beautiful :)

So I had the honor of helping out a friend by taking photos of her daughter for her hopeful modeling career (which by the way I think she will succeed!). Little "C" is 3 years old and has got everything! She is so stinkin cute I just can't stand it! She has a cute chubby face, tanned colored skin, freckles, dimples, big blue eyes, and BEAUTIFUL curly hair! To top it all of she is one of 4 sisters, and all of them look completely different! So we set out and took some photos of little "C". She is such a diva and posed in every which way! We also grabbed some of her older sister "A" because she is just as beautiful! I had so much fun and there were so many pictures that were so perfect. I hope to photograph her again and maybe we can get all 4 sisters in the photos! She has 2 twin younger sisters, man mom has got her hands full and I can't imagine what these gorgeous girls are going to look/be like when they grow up!

Homecoming!

This was my first homecoming event. It wasn't a ship homecoming so I really didn't know what to expect. I was just excited that I would be able to give pictures to a well deserved family of their husband and daddy coming home. I am glad they were not the ones trying to capture all the great moments while trying to visit. We thought daddy was going to march in with the rest of the guys coming home. While we were waiting daddy sneaks up behind and grabs "A" the oldest son! Caught us all off guard so I didn't get the "running to daddy" shot or even the "daddy sneaking up" shot. I was bummed. Then the homecoming was held in a big parking lot where it was nothing but sun at mid-day. They had canopys that of course were red, making everyone underneath them red! "A" was so excited to see his daddy he kept talking and talking and smiling, it was cute. In the last photo he just touched his dads face, which is so cute! This was daddy's first time seeing baby "C" their 3rd baby. That makes the homecoming even more special. They had not seen daddy since Christmas time, so it had been about 8 months. The middle baby, "M", was a little scared and was crying. She is almost 2 and didn't have a nap so it was very overwhelming for her. She started warming up towards the end though and I am sure now she is daddys little girl! I did get a few good shots, that even though they are not technically correct, they are cute! I hope the "B" family loves them and will get to cherish this experience through my photos. I hope that it was less stressful on them to not have to worry about photos.

Lollipops!!

So I have always wanted to do some shots of my kids with those big lollipops! Well I found a great candy store that sells them for cheap and so I picked some up and off we went with my friend to get some pictures of them with their lollipops! I think they turned out fairly well! Of course they are my kids so I am partial to them but I wanted to show everyone in case they wanted to do something similar. Most of these were taken in Old Town which had some great backdrops for us to use!

Its been awhile since I have posted. I think life has finally got back on track around here. We had a scare that we may not be in the Navy anymore and it was stressing me out like crazy! Plus we had family and friends around (which is nice) but you know takes away from daily life...you do more things when they are around than you do when your by yourself. So now everything is fixed and we are starting to relax. I did do some shots when my friend was out and we had a blast. I also used the timer to catch myself in them! Here are some! I am hoping to get out and do some more shoots, maybe some family shoots would be in order!! Any takers???

Family of 6!

I got an opportunity last weekend to capture a great family on film! They were a family of 6! They were a combined family of Mom and her two boys and Dad and his girl and boy! They were so great, you would have never guessed they had never been brought up together from day one. All the kids loved each other, they were all well behaved through the shoot. The little girl was such the photogenic one and helping us come up with ideas on places to shoot. We shot in the cloudy day but it seems that the photos turned out well. I am semi-happy with the shoot, yet I am a perfectionist so I am not sure I will ever be perfectly happy with a shoot! I hope they enjoy their photos and maybe will get an opportunity to shoot them again!!

Brother's Army Graduation

We went to Kentucky at the end of April to see my brother final decide to go through Army bootcamp and made it!! Woot!! We were all so proud of him and saw him group up a little in those gruling weeks in bootcamp, yet he was still the same silly brother I always had. We decided to do a photo shoot while we were in the beautiful Kentucky country and this is what I got! Congratulations broother! I love you!

First Family Shoot

I was blessed to be able to shoot a wonderful family of 4. I finally finished post processing my photos late last night and I am not super happy with them. I think the sun was too harsh and there is too much shadowing. Plus it was really warm this day so I think that there is some effects from that. It was busy at the beach so it was kind of, well wherever we found a spot that was clear. I will post some pics that I will admit myself to taking but I feel really bad. I never realized the sun went down so late. This was between 4:30 and 5pm and the sun was still so high up and so harsh! I feel horrible for this wonderful family that their pictures were not the best I could offer them. It was my first real shoot at the beach and my first family shoot so I guess it is not allowed to be perfect. I hope that I will get another opportunity to shoot this family this summer possibly later in the evening or a different location where there is some open shade. Thank you though for allowing me to photograph your family!

I thought I would share this photo because these are my two kids with their very best friends, "A" and "P". "A" and "P" are on vacation with their mommy to see their family on the other side of the world!! Haha practically they are. Right now my girl is having "P" withdrawls and my boy doesn't seem to interact with any other kids his age like he does with "A". This was taken the day before they left and I think I am going to have it framed for the kids' room...even though my boy isn't looking at the camera!

Natural Indoor Lighting

Well with the probability of me doing newborn shots, I wanted to try and practice indoor lighting. Lots of mommies do not want to take their newborns outside in the elements for pictures. So I started practicing in our empty room that has 3 windows and the room is empty until we get a guest bed. So I hung up some curtains as my background (until I can afford something more!) and went to work. We didn't shoot long but my little girl tries so hard to be creative. She was laying on her back throwing her feet in the air and making weird faces and all kinds of stuff! I was laughing so hard, but since she did all those weird things we didn't many "good" ones. We will try again soon!

Maternity

I had the wonderful opportunity to photography this beautiful lady. She was about 6 weeks till her due date and she asked me to do her maternity photos. I think many of them came out very nice, but she was a fantastic model! They morning was perfect and so beautiful. I have never been to the La Jolla Cove and I will surely go again! I hope to do more maternity photos and then hopefully work into newborns and more! I have a few more shoots lined up for next month and hopefully they all go as great as this one!

Balboa Park

We went to Balboa Park the other day and man is it beautiful. Silly me didn't get my settings correct but most the pictures I liked in black and white anyways. Here are my kiddos with their friends. The fountain was the most beautiful place! We will go back again very soon!

"Senior" Shots

Neither of these are seniors! One is my best friend Paige who will be a senior in 2 years and the other is my brother who is going to be joining the Army next month!! I wanted to have some different options and start my portfolio. Plus with my brother I wanted to give some pictures to my mom and allow her to have some actual senior photos from my brother since he never got them done. I am excited to have someone other than children!

So I chose a name to suit me in a business when all leads there. I will be starting my portfolio building after the first of the year. Ok so I got my new lens this past weekend. I am so excited. I started using it and this is what I got. I love practicing on my kids, but I think its coming time that I get some more practice...the kids are getting sick of me. My little girl keeps asking to go take picutres but its just a ploy to play outside! Haha. I also got Rylie a pettiskirt that she thinks is her "pretty skirt". So you will see more pics in that once I get a cute shirt to go with it.

I am still not sure if I am even coming close to getting the hang of this...I am trying really hard, I purchased a new lens and hope it is here by tomorrow and see if that helps me any. I want to succeed so I have something successful that I can do! Its so hard, I think everyone thinks its so easy. Sure I could figure out how to fix everything in photoshop but that would take the point out of taking picutres and well really I don't have the time to do that. I feel like I am progressing ever so slowly, but progressing is all that matters! I am having so much fun trying to capture every moment of the kids' lives and then trying to make them beautiful pictures that I can hang up in my home. I LOVE LOVE LOVE photos and I am so glad I can try to do them on my own. Sure I could use more equipment and such, but I want to learn all the basics first and then move from there. All these pictures had little to nothing done in photoshop to them so take that into account. The first one has a color pop to it as I was experimenting but all the rest are just out of the camera. Enjoy and I will post next week again...I am going to do a "shoot" with the kids and daddy. I should have Halloween costumes in pictures too!
